Boarding Terms and Conditions

Last updated July 2026

These Terms and Conditions govern the boarding of reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and related animals ("Animals") at Birmingham Reptiles ("we", "us", "our", or "the Store"). By requesting or using our boarding services, you ("you", "the Owner", or "Customer") agree to be bound by these terms. Please read them carefully. We reserve the right to refuse boarding at our sole discretion. Our Boarding Terms and Conditions are an addition to our standard Terms and Conditions.

1. Booking and Payment

  • 1.1 Full payment is due upon drop-off or as agreed. We accept cash, card, bank transfer, and other methods as offered at the Store.
  • 1.2 Rates are per calendar day (including drop-off and collection days) and are species- and size-specific (for example, snakes from approximately £6.60–£7.20 per day, lizards £8.00–£8.80 per day, and other rates as published), with sharing discounts where applicable. Final quotes are confirmed by staff.
• 1.3 Incorrect animal size or type: online enquiries and estimates rely on the service, species, size tier (for example standard vs larger / 4 ft+ vivarium), count, and sharing options you select. If, on arrival or inspection, staff reasonably determine that you selected the wrong animal type, size tier, count, or sharing arrangement, we will recalculate the boarding charge using the correct published rates for the Animals actually presented. Any additional amount is payable in full before we accept the Animal(s) into boarding. We may refuse drop-off until the corrected balance is paid. Under-declarations do not bind us to a lower rate.
  • 1.4 Late collection: additional daily rates apply (potentially double during peak times), plus a £25 per enclosure surcharge if space is limited. Book extra days if you are uncertain about collection timing.
  • 1.5 Cancellations: payment is non-refundable. We may charge for reserved space if cancelled with short notice (less than 24 hours).

2. Health and Pre-Boarding Requirements

  • 2.1 All Animals must be in good health, parasite-free, and free from contagious diseases upon arrival. A visual inspection will be conducted. We may refuse boarding or require veterinary clearance (at your expense) if concerns arise.
  • 2.2 You must disclose full details of any requirements for services whilst in our care, including species, age, sex, recent diet and feeding schedule, medications, supplements, health history, shedding or breeding status, and any special husbandry needs.
  • 2.3 Owner-supplied medications and supplements must be provided in sufficient quantity (perishables and live food exempt where noted). We can purchase replacements at your cost.
  • 2.4 We are not responsible for pre-existing conditions that worsen or manifest during boarding.

3. Care During Boarding

  • 3.1 Animals will receive species-appropriate housing, heating, lighting (UVB where required), humidity, and daily welfare checks by experienced keepers.
  • 3.2 We will administer approved medications for an additional fee and seek veterinary care if deemed necessary (preferred vet: Manor Vets, Edgbaston; you may nominate one in advance).
  • 3.3 Veterinary costs (including staff time, for example £60+ per visit) are fully your responsibility. We will attempt to contact you, but treatment proceeds in the animal’s best interest.
  • 3.4 Sharing enclosures is at our discretion for compatible animals only, with reduced rates for extras.

4. Liability, Risk, and Release

  • 4.1 Important — Assumption of Risk and Limitation of Liability: reptile care involves inherent risks, including (but not limited to) illness, parasites, stress-related issues (for example refusal to feed or shedding problems), injury, death, behavioural changes, escapes, equipment failure, power outages, or other unforeseen events, even with best practices.
  • 4.2 You assume all risks associated with boarding. We use reasonable care but do not guarantee outcomes.
  • 4.3 To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, Birmingham Reptiles, its owners, staff, and agents are not liable for any loss, injury, illness, death, escape, or damage to your Animal(s) arising from boarding services, including our negligence (except in cases of proven gross negligence or wilful misconduct).
  • 4.4 Escape clause: if an Animal escapes while in our care, we will take reasonable steps to recapture it (for example a search of the premises, and notification to you and local authorities if relevant). However, you agree that we are not liable for any consequences of escape, including loss of the animal, veterinary costs post-recovery, property damage caused by the animal, or any other claims. You release us from all related liability.
  • 4.5 We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged owner-supplied equipment, food, or personal items.
  • 4.6 Our total liability (where it cannot be excluded) is limited to the lesser of the replacement value of the animal (at our reasonable assessment) or the total boarding fees paid for that animal.
  • 4.7 Indemnity: you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, costs, or damages arising from inaccurate information you provided, your Animal’s actions (for example harming other animals or people), or your breach of these terms.

5. Abandonment and Uncollected Animals

  • 5.1 Animals must be collected on the agreed date. Failure to collect or communicate for 4 weeks (or 30 days under some policies) may result in the animal being considered abandoned.
  • 5.2 We will pursue outstanding boarding fees via the Small Claims Court or other legal means. Ownership may then transfer to us, allowing rehoming, sale, or other disposition at our discretion. You remain liable for fees incurred.

6. General

  • 6.1 Insurance: we recommend you maintain pet insurance that covers boarding. We carry appropriate business insurance, but it does not replace your responsibilities.
  • 6.2 Photos and video: we may take and use images of your Animal for records, welfare monitoring, or promotional purposes (anonymised where possible).
  • 6.3 Changes: these terms may be updated; continued use constitutes acceptance.
  • 6.4 Governing law: these terms are governed by English law. Disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of English courts.
  • 6.5 Severability: if any provision is invalid, the remainder remains in effect.
  • 6.6 By dropping off your Animal(s), you confirm you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions, including the liability limitations and escape provisions.

Animals

Add each species and count. Tick Sharing viv when extras share a vivarium (first at standard, extras at the additional rate). Tick Larger for 4 ft+ / larger animals where that tier applies. For multiple animals, pick an animal type per line so the estimate uses the right day rate.
