Why It's Important to Use a Moss Hide with Reptiles

Reptiles are cold-blooded animals, which means that their body temperature is regulated by their environment. This means that it is important to provide your reptile with a temperature gradient in their enclosure, so that they can find a spot that is the right temperature for them.

A moss hide is a great way to provide your reptile with a cool, humid place to hide.

Moss is a natural material that is very good at retaining moisture. This makes it ideal for creating a humid hide for your reptile. A humid hide can be beneficial for your reptile in a number of ways:

  • It can help your reptile shed its skin more easily. Reptiles shed their skin as they grow. A humid hide can help to loosen the old skin, making it easier for your reptile to shed.

  • It can help to prevent dehydration. Reptiles can dehydrate easily, especially in dry environments. A humid hide can help to keep your reptile hydrated by providing them with a place to go to escape the dry air.

  • It can help to reduce stress. Reptiles are prey animals, so they naturally feel stressed when they are exposed to open spaces. A moss hide can provide your reptile with a safe place to hide and feel secure.

To create a moss hide, simply place a layer of moss in a small enclosure, such as a plastic container or a ceramic hide. You can also add other items to the hide, such as leaves, branches, and rocks. Make sure to keep the moss moist by spraying it with water regularly.

We are currently trailing a new Custom Slate Hide and Wet Box range, from our experience and tests, we have noticed that these wet boxes and hides do hold in the humidity in for longer, not to mention their aesthetics, they look amazing!
